Pillirina

Beaches, Environment and nature
Traversa Sant'Agostino - 96100 Siracusa

The ideal place for a naturalistic and historical trip, with beautiful beaches looking at Ortigia island.

In the heart of the Maddalena Peninsula, there is a magical place, a place that embodies all the beauty and history of Siracusa, Punta della Mola, called the Pillirina. A natural inlet with two small beaches and a truly spectacular view of the island of Ortigia!

This place really traces the whole history of the city, because it is from this inlet that in 415 BC the Athenians attacked Syiacusa for the first time to conquer it. In the countryside in front of the beaches, even today, there are the remains of the tombs of the Syracusan soldiers who were killed in that famous battle.

Visible and visitable, there are also barracks and bunkers dating back to World War II. Recently the place is back in vogue in the chronicles that concern the city for a civil battle fought by the citizens of Siracusa to make the area declared Natural Reserve, thus averting the threat of the presence of a private resort that would deny access to this wonderful still uncontaminated coastline.

Ideal for a naturalistic and historical trip, the Pillirina is also one of the places of Siracusa that gives the greatest inspiration from the photographic point of view. Sunsets are breathtaking!

The brilliance of its waters and the picturesque coves, which can be easily reached by swimming, make this place perfect for spending a day at the beach surrounded by the purest nature of Siracusa!
