Sicily is an open-air movie set. It is a famous film location for “Commissario Montalbano” or “The Godfather 2”. Siracusa has also been in the movies as well.

This ancient tradition is on show in Ortigia at the Greco Palace that is home to the I.N.D.A. Foundation and to the museum of ancient drama, with its costumes, pictures and movies. Palazzo Corpaci also houses posters and relics retelling the history of cinema.

Great actors performed in Siracusa such as Alessio Boni who played the part of the painter Caravaggio, in the homonymous TV series filmed at Maniace Castle.

In the unforgettable movie “Malena”, Monica Bellucci crosses the square under the gaze of her fellow citizens. The square chosen by the filmmaker Giuseppe Tornatore is the beautiful piazza Duomo in Ortigia.

As in Malena, we recommend you sit at a table in one of the bars in the square and enjoy the delicacies offered by the local cuisine.
