It is an old alley made of lava stone, known as via del Tocco, which connected Acireale and Santa Maria La Scala in old days. From the lava ridge, 80 meters high, the roundabout way offers breathtaking views and landscapes.
Starting from the Church of St. Maria del Suffragio, reach the canted bridge of the SS114. Here the path begins, seven curvy roads and little squares (called “chiazzette” in Sicilian dialect), votive chapels and the Fortezza del Tocco. Surrounded by plants of capers, prickly pears and mulberry, walk down the reserve until you reach a fork in the road. If you go right through the cultivation of citrus fruits to reach the Molino beach of Santa Maria La Scala or if you go left towards the main square of the town, the beauty will be ensured.
Church of St. Maria del Suffragio
The church of St. Maria del Suffragio stands in the district called “Quartiere dei Morti”. The church, built in the first half of the Seventeenth century, was restored after the earthquake of 1693.

La Timpa Natural Reserve
“La Timpa” natural reserve is characterized by the presence of lava ridges that have stratified over the centuries. The reserve can be reached from SS114 state highway, through the tortuous “Chiazzette” trail that heads down to Santa Maria La Scala.
