A tour through the places where the great composer, Vincenzo Bellini, lived and played his music. The house where he lived and the church where he was baptized. Young Bellini attended his grandfather’s music concerts, and probably played the piano too in the church of S. Nicolò l’Arena and at parties in Palazzo Biscari.

During the tour you will also visit the monuments dedicated to him such as the Bellini theatre, which was inaugurated in 1890 with a performance of Bellini’s most famous opera: “Norma”.

Saint Francesco Borgia’s Church

Saint Francesco Borgia’s church is located in the scenic via Crociferi, next to the Saint Benedict’s one. It was built around the eighteenth century and presents a linear neoclassical style, the facade is in white marble and is developing into two rows of columns.

Saint Nicholas’ Church

One of the largest in Sicily, St. Nicholas’ Church has a long and troubled history. The original building dates from the late sixteenth century, but before the lava flow in 1669 and then the earthquake in1693 destroyed it completely.

To be visited for admiring the wooden and golden organ and the large sundial.

Piazza Stesicoro

Piazza Stesicoro takes its name from the Greek poet Stesichorus. It is crossed and divided in two parts by the main street, via Etnea. The two sides of the square have different architectural styles: on East stands the monument dedicated to Vincenzo Bellini, on the other side the roman amphitheatre.

Massimo Bellini Theatre

The Massimo Bellini Theatre is the place where it stages the opera. During its opening, in 1890, it was staged the representation of ‘Norma’ by Vincenzo Bellini. The central hall is composed of four tiers of stages and galleries on which dominates the evocative fresco.

Palazzo Biscari

Along via Dusmet, not far from the “Pescheria”, it’s located the Palazzo Biscari, which takes its name from the Biscari principles who lived there. The palace has several rooms in rococo style, full of frescoes and decorations. Today its museum hosts MF “Museum&Fashion”.

Saint Agatha’s Cathedral (Duomo)

Saint Agatha’s Cathedral takes its name from the “Santuzza” protector of the city, her feast day is on February 5th. With its massive structure, the Cathedral has the characteristic contrast between the gray and white marble it’s used for the decorations.
